What makes UC-II® collagen so effective?

• It resists hydrolysis in the intestine, improving absorption.
• Intestinal hydrolysis (part of the digestion process) normally removes much of the classic collagen, absorbing only a tiny part.
• The UC-II® Lonza has a unique mechanism of action that directly stimulates the production of collagen by chondrocytes, which are the cells of the cartilaginous tissue responsible for tissue maintenance and collagen production³.

Why is type II collagen so important in the body?

Type II collagen is the main component of cartilaginous tissues.

Articular cartilage is a highly specialized tissue that covers the bone surfaces that form part of the joints. It is responsible for protecting the bones of the joints and facilitating movement.

The articular cartilage does not have blood vessels, it is nourished by the synovial fluid superficially and by the bone deeply to nourish itself, and has little capacity to regenerate.

Chondrocytes, the only cellular element of cartilage, are responsible for the synthesis and maintenance of the extracellular matrix, which is composed of 80% water and 20% solid matter, with its main components being type II collagen and proteoglycans. Therefore, the contribution of external collagen is vital. UC-II® in order to help recover lost cartilage and as a preventive measure.
